This review is for the January Play! By Sephora box.

The Goods

  1. FRXXXTION Exfoliating Cleanser Stick – Tarte Cosmetics. Regular price: $4.85

Get your quick Frxxxtion fix with this three-in-one exfoliator, cleanser, and face mask all in a portable, solid-to-suds stick. With a clarifying cleansing gel powered by the Rainforest of the Sea™ complex and suspended diatomaceous earth microexfoliants, the vegan-friendly formula draws out surface oil and reduces shine, while purifying pores for the deepest clean possible. The stick gently sloughs away dead surface cells and polishes skin as it cleanses to fight dullness and pump up the radiance. I tried this this morning, it’s weird cleaning my face with a chapstick-tube-like twisty stick haha. My face felt soft and clean afterwards, I will use this until it’s gone but not buy more.

  1. Color Control Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ – AmorePacific. Regular price: $7.99

Blur the line between skin care and makeup. This versatile Color Control Cushion Compact perfects the complexion with weightless, buildable coverage, while potent Asian botanicals deeply hydrate, protect from free-radical damage, and brighten skin for a naturally flawless finish. Powerful broad-spectrum SPF 50+ defends against daily exposure to UVA and UVB rays without the typical white cast left from high sun protection content in other foundations. To use, pat the blue side of applicator sponge to either cushion and tap across face. The almond blush was a bit light but tan blush blended nicely with my skintone.

  1. Almost Lipstick in Black Honey – Clinique. Regular price: $9.70

Not quite a gloss, and not quite a lipstick, this transparent lipstick fuses with the natural tone of your lips to create a lip look that’s unique to you. This sheer, emollient-rich formula glides on for easy layering. I actually really love this, because it gives just a hint of color and makes my lips nice and shiny, but is not sticky AT ALL like normal lip gloss. It’s the best of both worlds!

  1. Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask – Farmacy. Regular price: $4.37

This face mask enhances and hydrates the skin for a younger appearance. It features an intensely moisturizing combination of honey (a natural humectant used since ancient times), propolis (antiseptic found in beehives), and amino acid-rich royal jelly. The balm gently warms and transforms into a rich cream as it’s massaged into the skin for an indulgent experience. This mask felt nice and relaxing on, unlike those drying tightening masks. It left my skin feeling soft and moisturized.

  1. Treatment Masque – OUAI. Regular price: $6.70

A restorative healing mask that’s formulated to leave strands incredibly soft and smooth after just one treatment. This intensive moisturizing treatment works in minutes to repair damaged hair and increase resistance to future damage. It is made with artichoke leaf extract to seal the cuticle and protect hair color from oxidative degradation. I was not impressed with this, and didn’t notice a big enough difference to justify the $32 full price.

  1. Love Relentlessly Perfume – Tony Burch. Regular price: $3.40

Introducing Love Relentlessly, the new fragrance from Tory Burch inspired by the love story of her parents. A bold and romantic mix: pink pepper unfolds into rose and orris, then reveals a warming blend of patchouli and ambertonic. This scent starts off soft and flowery, and settles in to an amber musk. A nice balance that has a deep sensual side perfect for date night and a brighter floral clean that it can be worn during the day. I like it and I don’t like perfumes at all usually. But since they give me headaches I’ll still have to give this to a friend.

  1. Free Makeup Bag

This makeup bag is really cool, I like the white and pink together and also the mesh backing. My favorite bag so far from Play! by Sephora.

The value of the products in this month’s box is around $37.00! I even used the prices for the samples I received, not the full sized products, so this is the true value and I’d say it’s a steal! The box is only $10.00/month, so ~4x the value is great. The only product I really won’t use is the fragrance, and it’s a bummer for me that every box comes with a fragrance considering I don’t wear perfume lol. But I did love the other samples! The Clinique tinted lip gloss is perfect (just the right amount of color and shine, no stickiness) and the face masks and face wash all felt great.

Play! by Sephora is $10.00 per month with free shipping and handling, $10.70 with tax.

There is usually a waiting list for this box, so you can sign up for the waiting list here. I was on it for two weeks before I got my email, which was not long to wait at all.
