ipsy review November, 2016

Ipsy is a subscription that delivers full and deluxe sized beauty products with a makeup bag to your door every month!

This month’s theme is “ROCKSTARLET”.

The Goods

  1. Rose Gold Small Duo Fiber Brush – Luxie Beauty. Regular price: $22.00

This is a duo fibre stippling powder brush. Truth be told I’ve never heard of stippling before, I had to google it. Stippling brushes are popular for giving an “airbrushed” finish to makeup. To apply, lightly tap down onto the foundation/powder a few times to get product onto the brush without overloading it. With the same light tapping motion, stipple(tap, tap, tap) the foundation over your entire face. Do not blend, just distribute the makeup evenly on your face. Your skin should look as though it’s pixelated with foundation. Next, gently swirl the brush in small circles all around your face so that only the white bristles are moving (do not mash it in to your face like you do with normal brushes). The result is AWESOME, I couldn’t believe how smooth and even this made my skin look, and I didn’t even use a different foundation/powder than normal, this brush alone made a HUGE difference. It creates flawless coverage, I see why the airbrushed look is popular. I wish I knew about stippling earlier, but I’m so glad I do now. My beauty routine just got upgraded haha. Here is a picture of my skin after applying my makeup with this brush:

      2. Pro-Collagen Marine Cream – Elemis. Regular price: $38.50

This cream is $128 for 1.6 oz! That was pretty shocking to me, but after reading about it I kind of understand why. Clinically proven, the powerful anti-aging ingredients of Pro-Collagen Marine Cream have been shown to reduce the depth of wrinkles, improve skin firmness, tone and hydration in 15 days. The independent clinical trials of this cream were performed over 2 weeks, with 26 women between ages 40-66, using daily, morning and evening. The results were that the appearance of wrinkle depth was reduced by 78%, and hydration was increased 45%. Pretty impressive, right?! The way to apply this cream is almost identical to how you apply La Mer, warm a pea sized amount with your hands before applying to your face. I’m so excited to be using this until it’s gone, I just wish I could afford to keep buying it. Here is a summary about the ingredients from their website if you’re interested.

“The unique Mediterranean algae, Padina Pavonica has been shown to dramatically increase the quantity of glucosaminoglycans (GAGs) within the skin. By special cell communication, these water-attracting GAGs are responsible for skin moisturization, improving suppleness, firmness and elasticity. In addition, Ginkgo Biloba providing superior free-radical protection has been blended with precious Rose and Mimosa Absolutes, thus creating the ultimate anti-aging cream from ELEMIS.”

3. Eyetini Eyeshadow in Firestarter – ‘Tini Beauty. Regular price: $13.00

Burnished amber chrome shadow in a silky crease-resistant formula serves up statement-making eyes in a single shot. Doubles as cheek color, or dab over lipstick for a matte shimmer finish. This eyeshadow is the perfect color for my browbone, which is great because that’s the only part of my eye I can never decide which color to use. Yay! This is what it looks like on, it’s the darker pinkish red color in between my brows and crease.

      4. Instant Brows Brow Pencil in Medium/Dark – ModelCo. Regular price: $8.50

Transform barely-there brows into full, natural-looking arches with ModelCo INSTANT BROWS. This dual-ended pencil with grooming brow brush adds shape, colour and density in one streamlined tool.  The unique wax formula delivers a long-wearing finish that allows you to build desired colour and fullness and provides a light hold. I love the results I got from using this pencil! The color goes on with rich pigment right away. I don’t have to “color” my eyebrows scribbling back and fourth to get the color right, I can simply apply this in the shape I want my eyebrows and it goes on dark and creates a VERY precise outline with ease. I normally take a wile doing my eyebrows but this made the process super quick and easy, it only took a minute to make both my brows look just how I like them. Check out the results!

  5. Mad Lash Black Mascara – theBalm Cosmetics. Regular price: $5.30

Introducing Mad Lash, an out of this world mascara from theBalm Cosmetics! Equipped with an injection molded wand, Mad Lash transforms your lashes to new levels of height and fullness. The phenomenal formula delivers intense volume and definition in a rich black shade that’ll bring your lashes to life. I like the wet consistency of this when I’m putting it on, and this mascara makes my lashes considerably longer and thicker without becoming thick or cakey. I’ll certainly use this until it runs out!

This month’s Glam Bag is navy blue decorated with stars that connect constellations shaped like makeup products. It’s definitely original, lol. I have a wicker basket with all my Glam Bags lined up like in a file cabinet holding all of my makeup, separated by type (mascara in one, eyebrow products in one, blushes, etc).

What else can you do with them, I’d like to hear what you guys do with your Glam Bags!

The products in the months box are worth $87.30!! That’s like 8x the $10.00/month cost of ipsy, so I’d say that’s an AMAZING value! I’m super happy with everything I got this month. The makeup brush is just awesome, who knew a makeup brush could make that big of a difference to the finished look? The mascara and eyeshadow are both high quality and will be used often. The CREAM literally works anti-aging magic and the eyebrow pencil makes creating perfect eyebrows a piece of cake. The makeup and accessories are all such high quality and this subscription is a huge value to me.
