The Goods

  1. Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee – Josie Maran. Regular price: $13.00

This buildable, blendable blush hybrid provides the natural look of a cream blush with the long-lasting hydrating color of a gel stain. Infused with 50 percent pure coconut water, it instantly hydrates while nourishing with the powerful benefits of vitamin E-rich argan oil. Like a refreshing sip of coconut water for your skin, this moisture-packed blush instantly drenches cheeks in a cool veil of color. I wasn’t sure about this because I’ve never used non-powdered blush. I actually ended up really liking this because of how easily it blends and how I can get the perfect shade through building the color. This lasts 14 hours and looks natural, no shine.

  1. Radiance Split Pan Bronzer and Highlighter Duo – Manna Kadar. Regular price: $21.00

img_7232

Create a sun-kissed glow with our Radiance Bronzer and Highlighter Duo. This 3-in-1 product in a universal shade can be used as a bronzer, highlighter, or eye shadow. I like how this looks on, the lighter shade gives a bright, highlighted look and the bronzer gives a natural glow. This also looks good when I wet an eye shadow brush and wear it as eye shadow, with the light color on my lid, the darker color on the outer edges, and both colors combined under my eyebrows.

  1. Power of Love Eye Shadow Palette – Pacifica. Regular price: $20.00

img_7233

Power of Love Eye Shadow Palette includes 10, velvety rich, long lasting, creaseless, mineral eye shadows infused with coconut water to create a soft, cream-like finish. 100% vegan & cruelty-free! I needed to really build this for the color to show up, and that was with a primer. I guess it’s not fair that I only have Too Faced eye shadow to compare it too, because I’m used to that where the color goes on deeply pigmented and easily. As long as you have primer though this eye shadow is pretty good. They weren’t lying about it being long-lasting, either… when I got out of the shower yesterday morning the eye shadow pattern on my arm was still there!!

  1. Energy Noir Lipsurgence Skintuitive Lip Gloss – Tarte. Regular price: $19.00

img_7235

This lip gloss from Tarte’s custom Energy family features the Skintuitive pH-adjusting technology which instantly responds to lips’ natural energy to deliver a custom shade of berry that’s unique to each person. It is enhanced with vitamin E; a natural preservative that also acts as an anti-inflammatory emollient and antioxidant, jojoba seed oil; natural soothing extract that leaves lips soft, supple and smooth, and flower extract; drenches lips in moisture for healthy, hydrated lips. This goes on clear and I needed to build it a bit before I saw color. That’s fine because I’ll probably wear this over lip stick just for the shine, anyways.

  1. Stay All Day Prime and Anti-Shine Balm – Stila. Regular price: $24.00

This multi-tasking, secret weapon provides invisible coverage for a flawless complexion. Use under makeup as a primer to create an impeccable canvas for flawless makeup application, use over makeup to set and extend wear, or use in place of a pressed powder for touch-ups throughout the day. Wow, I am LoViNg this primer!! It’s so nice to be able to apply primer with a round sponge like powder, it saves me time and the primer itself works great. It is matte so no shine and helps my makeup stay on all day long. Best primer ever!

Value

The total value of the items in this month’s box is $97.00. The box costs $39.99/month. The only comparable box to this one I could find is BOXYCHARM, which has 4-5 full sized beauty samples also, and costs $21.00/month. The last 3 months of BOXYCHARM had values over $115. They have a team of curators and a lot more resources, though. Alexia (of Handpicked) is doing everything herself and probably does not have resources like BOXYCHARM does, so it’s probably more expensive for her to create a box. If you can afford to spend a little more to support an independent venture, you won’t be disappointed by Handpicked. I love beauty product boxes, but I hate how quickly my samples run out. It’s really nice to have a box with ALL full sized samples that you know will last you a long time, it definitely helps me feel like I got my money’s worth. With full sized products, the value actually IS the value, like I literally have $97 worth of makeup unlike sample boxes where even though I can give them value based on weight, that doesn’t change the fact that they’re given away for free at department stores.
