ipsy review July, 2016

Ipsy is a subscription that delivers full and deluxe sized beauty products with a makeup bag to your door every month!

This months theme is “Hot Summer Nights.”

The Goods

  1. Night Cream – Befine Food Skin Care. Regular price: $6.25

This night cream helps in formation of collagen, gives protection for collagen and elasticity, and tightens skin and wrinkles. It contains Rice Bran Oil which has the highest amount of Vitamin E in natural form. The oil contains the vitamin E antioxidant group including tocopherol, oryzanol and tocotrienol. These bio-available nutrients are used to soften and moisturize the skin. I’m a huge fan of night and day creams to keep my skin looking young and healthy, so I will definitely use this when my current cream runs out!

2. Baked Eyeshadow in Plum – Mellow Cosmetics. Regular price: $8.00

Highly-Pigmented and silky smooth powder that applies and blends evenly. The long lasting and shimmering colours can be worn wet or dry. This eyeshadow is free from parabens and infused with mineral powders. This went on smooth and even, and as you can see the color does not fade when applied to skin which is great. I’m wearing this right now on the outer corners of my eyelids, top and bottom. It looks great!

3. Rose Gold Small Angle Eye Brush 215 – Luxie. Regular price: $10.00

With soft synthetic bristles, this cruelty-free makeup brush supports vegan beauty. With cutting edge antibacterial coating, this brush maintains its high quality and remains clean and fresh over time. Compact density of the eyeliner brush allows for precision and accuracy. This works great when using eyeshadow for a cat-eye look and for lining the lower lashes as well. It feels high quality and precise.

4. Power Lash Black Mascara – ModelCo. Regular price: $5.00

Beloved Australian brand ModelCo is giving our lash lines a serious boost with this all-star mascara. Armed with an inky-black formula and a gentle yet effective lash-grabbing brush, it glides on silky-smooth to create thick, extralong fringe in seconds. A unique brush that coats even the tiniest, sparsest lashes with an even layer of true black for supersized lashes. What’s more, the flake-free formula has serious staying power. This mascara works pretty well, it creates a pretty natural look compared to some of the clumpy thickening mascaras. This mostly lengthens with just a bit of volume as well.

5. HangoveRX Replenishing Face Primer – Too Faced. Regular price: $5.50

Hangover Primer is a revolutionary makeup primer that’s infused with coconut water, a probiotic-based ingredient, and skin revivers which work together to boost skin’s radiance, promote elasticity, and help hydrate while locking down makeup for fresher, longer, and more flawless wear. Too Faced harnessed the science of hydration to create a creamy, penetrating primer that acts like an energy drink for the skin by replenishing moisture levels. It can be worn alone for a dewy, healthy looking finish, or under bronzers, foundations, and powders to create the perfect canvas.

I have tried many primers, and generally I can’t get past the dry, grainy feeling they tend to have. For this reason I have traditionally passed on using primer, even though I know most people swear by it. This primer pleasantly surprised me, It is not dry at all (in fact it is super moisturizing) and holds makeup just as well. I’m officially buying this full size!

6. Free Makeup Bag

I love this holographic makeup bag! It’s super cute, I swapped out my old one for this one so it’s actually in my purse right now!

The products in the months box are worth $34.75. That’s more than 3x the $10.00/month cost of ipsy, so I’d say that’s a pretty great value! I love everything in this box. I’m wearing the primer, eyeshadow, and mascara right now (and used the brush to apply the eyeshadow). I’m even using the makeup bag, so I’d say I’m pretty happy with this month’s items! Yay!
