Awakening in a Box review June, 2016

Awakening in a Box is a subscription that delivers a monthly box of tools that enlighten and awaken your mind and spirit to your full potential. The box aims to bring healing and positive energy every month through crystals and products designed to aid you on your journey.

The theme of this month’s box is Sleep Tight, and is the second box in the Limited Edition Series, Sleep & Dreams. It’s not often that I get to review a box that includes items that I’m legitimately passionate about, so I apologize ahead of time for my ramblings!

The Goods

  1. Crystal Bar Soap – Third Eye. Regular price: $5.00

This mini soap is handmade and vegan. Third Eye has the crystal dogtooth amethyst embedded inside, known as the “Breath of Life”. It is a natural stress reliever and protects against negative energy. It helps in easing communication, allowing for a smooth easy connection with source energy and the spiritual realm. It allows us to let go and allow messages to come through our 3rd eye, making communication clear, letting us remember and interpret our dreams.

It is filled with the essential oils of fresh lavender, bringing a sense of calmness and relaxation. This soap makes for an eye opening shower… a third eye opening shower, that is! I’ve always loved amythest, I have an amethyst stone in my Dream Pouch under my pillow, to help me have and remember more vivid, meaningful dreams. Word to the wise – if you have any toxins in your system (such as alcohol) do not sleep with amethyst, it is a stone of sobriety and will work to remove the toxins from your body (aka make you sick).

  1. Polished Apatite Crystal. Regular price: ~$2.95

Apatite can help open up psychic gifts and connect the user to higher levels of spiritual guidance. Use Tumbled Apatite to deepen and maintain focus in meditation. Apatite enhances manifestation of ideas to reality and facilitates getting results, and has traditionally been associated with humanitarian efforts and teaching. As a Third-Eye Chakra Crystal, Apatite can initiate or increase the development of psychic abilities, such as intuition. Apatite promotes relaxation and will focus healing energy on the body’s systems, glands, meridians and organs. As such it is also good to have in the Dream Pouch, to help me relax/fall asleep and induce meaningful dreams. I have an Apatite stone in my pouch already, but it is much smaller than this one so it is getting replaced!

  1. Raw Black Tourmaline. Regular price: $5.00

I was so happy when I saw this! Black Tourmaline is my FaVoRiTe crystal of all time! I keep one in my purse, one in my pillow, and sometimes even in my pocket if I have a particularly stressful day ahead. This piece is quite large and a really nice stone, it’s definitely going in my purse! Black Tourmaline is a powerful protective stone, that takes one’s own negative thoughts and internal conflicts and turns them into positive, usable energy. It also deflects and dispels negative energy and forces coming your way from other people or the environment. You can actually see the way tourmaline neutralizes negative to positive by rubbing it until there is heat. When charged, one end becomes positive and the other negative, allowing it to attract, or repel, particles of dust or bits of paper. In this same way tourmaline processes negative energy to positive, keeping your mindset positive and free of distractions for clear concentration and insight. It also protects you from people who burden you with their problems while doing nothing to improve their situation.

There is an extremely important reason I also sleep with black tourmaline under my pillow. I suffer from SEVERE bouts of Sleep Paralysis. Normal people experience Sleep Paralysis once or twice in their lifetime… at one point I was having Sleep Paralysis 3-6 times a NIGHT, with no end in sight. I’d be scared to fall asleep, and to get it to stop I’d have to walk around for a few minutes and sometimes it would still happen again. If you do not know what this is, it is when you are asleep and then you literally wake up, your conscience is clear and your eyes are open. You just can’t move. Typically it feels like a dark or evil force is pressing down on your chest, preventing you from moving or screaming. Since your eyes are open but you can still be dreaming, you’ll often see monsters, intruders, aliens or ghosts trying to hurt you, standing in the doorway or sitting on your chest. Mind you, your eyes are open and you are seeing this in your ACTUAL room, so unless you know what is happening, you think it is real. Many people who experience abductions really just had sleep paralysis and hallucinated the entire thing, but don’t know any better because they were awake, and saw this in their own room, you know? Anyways, the first time it happened I thought I was dead and my spirit was trapped in my body being held there by some evil force. Once I really woke up, I realized it was something else and from then on whenever I had it, I knew kind of what was happening. Thing is, even if you’re having it and since you are conscious you think “Shit I’m having Sleep Paralysis again”, the fear and heaviness remains as well as the hallucinations. So I started to keep my eyes closed and try to wiggle my toes, then my feet, until I woke myself up. I found that if I slept with a light on or with someone, I wouldn’t get it. So in COLLEGE, I slept with my light on until the day I learned about crystals. I read about how you can charge them and use them for specific purposes, and Black Tourmaline was specifically used to ease sleep disturbances and protect your sleep from being interrupted by nightmares. I’ve used it ever since and can sleep alone, with my light off with no Sleep Paralysis now. I get it maybe once a month as opposed to many times a night. This was the beginning of my Dream Pouch journey, but that’s another story.

  1. Polished Botswana Agate, Regular price: $3.00

Botswana Agate is known to work well towards easing sleep disturbances such as night terrors, nightmares and sleep-walking caused by stress or trauma. The soothing energies of this stone encourage you to find solutions instead of focusing on negative aspects of daily challenges. Wow, I can’t believe I don’t already have this! This stone is right up my alley, I am definitely adding it to my Dream Pouch, I need all the protection I can get haha! Botswana Agate is called the Sunset Stone because it retains sunlight and comforts people through dark, lonely nights. It helps alleviate obsessive thoughts and destructive mental patterns, and assists in overcoming fears, such as agoraphobia and panic attacks in crowded places. It encourages one to view the bigger picture in life, and look toward practical solutions rather than dwelling on the reasons for a situation or assigning blame.

A crystal of possibility and hope, Botswana Agate encourages artistic expression and exploration of the unknown, while still maintaining logic and attention to detail that brings projects and ventures into reality. I’ll be sure to keep this nearby next time I’m working on a painting to help channel some of my energy to create something beautiful. 🙂

  1. Sleepytime Teas – Classic Mint and Peach flavors. Regular price: ~.40

(I will have to use a tea ball to put mine in, because my cat got to the bag before I did!) Sleepytime Tea is one of my favorites! For me, preparing for and falling asleep is more of a ritual than routine. I like to make some relaxing tea (Sleepytime, or something with Chamomile or Lavender) about an hour before bed and lay down with a book or take a warm bath while I sip my tea. I have my crystal pouch in my pillowcase to protect me from nightmares and enhance my dreams (more vivid, sometimes lucid). I have a velvety soft eye mask I use when I’m ready to fall asleep. My pillow has drops of Lavender essential oil to help me sleep. Once the mask is on, I meditate by completely clearing my mind of all thoughts and focusing on “being”… and then before I know it I am waking up. So needless to say, the tea is a nice touch to this box. In fact, this entire box was so perfect for me, everything inside can be integrated in to my night time routine in one way or another. I love it!

Awakening in a Box is $14.00/month plus $5 S&H to USA. So $19.00 total. The items in this month’s box were worth about $16.35 based on my Very rough estimates lol. Crystals are crazy when it comes to prices, fancy stores can sell one crystal for $15.00 that you can find online for $2.00 or buy in bulk for $30.00… so it’s all relative. I used to sell my crystal dream pouches online so my knowledge of pricing is probably on the lower end of things, because I’d buy the crystals in bulk. Either way, this box is definitely worth the cost in terms of the experience it provides and the knowledge you gain from its contents, which is priceless. The world is asleep, and this box is playing a part in the fight to wake people up. I like to think a shift in consciousness is upon us, and I plan to be ahead of the game when it comes.
