Darby Smart review June, 2016

Darby Smart is a subscription box that delivers all the materials you’ll need for a new DIY craft every month!

This month the box came with supplies to make Rustic Jute Orbs.

Process

To make this project, I followed the instructions found here. First step was to blow up two of the balloons. I was about to blow up balloon number 5 when I saw that it said two, lol.

image

Next step was to cut the twine into pieces that are about 20 inches long.

image

Once the twine is ready, find a small bowl and pour the wood glue into it. Put in a few pieces of twine and cover them completely in glue.

image

Take a piece of twine and run it in between your fingers to remove any excess glue. Then stick the piece of twine around the balloon so that the edges touch.

image

Keep adding pieces of twine, making sure the ends of each piece are touching another piece of twine. As the twine dries, make sure to pick a place where the balloon can dangle freely. Let it hang for 8 hours for the glue to dry completely.

Once the glue is dry, pop the balloon!

Use a file to remove any excess glue on the twine, and begin to weave the string lights through the orb.

Once the lights are woven in completely, they are ready to hang! Hang them wherever you think they’ll look good. 🙂

The Final Result

This was a fun project, but it was SO messy! I have wood glue stuck to my table, floor, rags, hands, literally everywhere. They do look really cool though, and I’m excited for when people comment on them and I can say, “Oh yeah, I made those!”.

Value

Darby Smart is $19.00 a month, and I think the value lies more so in the experience than the cost. To me, being able to take a break and create something for myself or someone I love every month is priceless. I’m going to stick to this one, so stay tuned for more awesome crafts on my blog!
