Beauty Box 5 review April, 2016.

Beauty Box 5 is a subscription-based, beauty sampling service that delivers 5 deluxe samples and full-sized products right to your door every month.

DISCLAIMER: The prices Beauty Box 5 listed for their items were full size even for the sample sizes, so I adjusted the prices of the sample sizes.

The Goods

  1. Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow – Welcome Bonus Surprise. Regular price: $22.50

I’ve never heard of Marsk makeup before, but going off price alone I’m assuming this is a good makeup brand! I like this eyeshadow. I used a makeup brush I already had to apply it, it goes on nicely, with a light sheen. The more layers you add, the brighter it gets. It stays in place pretty well, I wore it all day yesterday and I didn’t have eyeshadow glitter under my eyes from the dust. This color is “Vanilla Frosting” and is perfect for me, I like light shadows for my inner eyelids.

2. Soapbox Sea Minerals Body Wash. Sample price: $1.00

I love body wash, and all things bath related, so I was excited to try this! This is made with shea butter and is paraben free. I’m not exaggerating, this stuff feels like SILK when you rub it on your skin. It feels so luxurious I felt fancy using it haha! It says for each full size bottle they sell, they send a bar of body soap to a person in need. They give you a code to see where yours went. I looked for my code but alas, this is a sample. Full size is 20 oz (and only $5.99 at Target!)

3. Jelly Pong Pong – Paradise Pigments. Full size. Regular price: $19.95

I didn’t think I’d like this color, but it actually looks pretty rad. The color is called “Cake Pop” and seems like red, pink, and coral mixed together. I like it because it doesn’t look like “Hey I wear bright red lipstick look at me!” But it still stands out, in a cool, mysterious way. Because you can’t pinpoint the color but the orange tone adds a unique edge as opposed to regular colors. I don’t know, I feel cool wearing it lol. Plus it’s super moisturizing so I don’t need a chap stick and a lipstick, this does it all.

4. Maskeraide – All Eyes On Me Hydrating Eye Gels. Sample price: $6.25

This is two moist little pads you put under each eye for 15 minutes. They’re supposed to help under eye circles as well as fine lines ad wrinkles. It has a 100 herb complex formula and hyaluronic acid to brighten, hydrate, and firm. I think these made me look a little less tired, they soothed my morning sleepy eye bags lol. They are $25 for 4 uses and the effects last 120 hours. I can’t afford to use these regularly, but they were fun to try.

5. Chella Passionate Pink Moisturizing Lip Pencil. Travel size price: $6.99

Beauty Box 5 says that this is a full size, but this one looks suspiciously smaller than the exact color and description sold on the Chella site:

Everywhere I looked, the size I got was sold as “travel” for $6.99 or less. So I’m going to go with my gut and use this price as opposed to the $18.00 price they have it listed at. This lip pencil is moisturizing as well as colorful, and looks almost the same as the Jelly Pong Pong lip cream. Maybe this was on purpose because people would use both, but since they’re both moisturizing AND colorful, if defeats the purpose of only needing one lip item if I just use two anyways right? But now I’ll have these both for extra long, interchangeably lol.

6. Global Beauty Care – Green Tea Makeup Remover Wipes. Regular price: $1.99

I liked these! They were just slightly moist, I’m so used to the regular remover wipes that are much more wet that it caught me off guard. They do just as good a job as the rest of them, though. These have green tea extract and vitamins A, C,  and E. I love that it has ingredients that are good for your skin. I’m going to go off on a side story real quick to explain why this matters to me. My favorite face wash was always Cetaphil. It kept my face clean and pimple free, and only had 8 ingredients and wasn’t harsh on my skin. Then I read an article about how the ingredients are a bunch of carcinogens and paragons, and none of them benefit skin whatsoever. Read here. So now when it comes to my face I check the ingredients and make sure they are beneficial to skin and natural. Long story short – I like that these wipes have healthy ingredients that are good for your skin and don’t just scrub off your makeup and that’s it.

The total value of the items in my box is $58.68. If I hadn’t had the welcome bonus, they would be worth $36.18. This subscription is only $12.00 a month, so this is a huge value!! I’m not going to lie, I was planning on canceling this after giving it a try (I do this with 90% of the boxes I try), but I can’t pass up a value this good :).
