The Goods

  1. Salmon en Papillote with Whole Wheat Couscous Pilaf, Asparagus, and Tarragon-Chive Herb Sauce.

This meal took about 30 minutes and turned out great. I love being able to try new spices and recipes I would have never tried otherwise with this subscription, and this week was no exception!  The recipe was very easy step-by-step directions and I had no trouble making this. The salmon turned out perfect and I got to try a new spice, tarragon! Yum!

2. Lemony Pan-Seared Chicken with Pesto Potato Salad and Peas

This was a super tasty meal, and the pesto came pre-packaged so that is one thing I didn’t have to make from scratch. The pesto had tons of flavor and really made the meal. I boiled the potatoes too long (I’m used to boiling them to mash so I think it was subconscious), so that’s why it looks like… well, half-mashed potatoes. Even so, the meal turned out excellent! The pan-roasted pine nuts added a tasty crunch and all the ingredients complimented each other perfectly. This meal took about 30 minutes and is gluten free.

3. Lasagna Baked Penne with Kale and Mozzarella

For this meal, I boiled the noodles while I prepared the rest of the ingredients. I just sautéed the onions, added the meat and cooked until it was brown, and added the garlic and oregano. Then you take the meat, tomatoes, mozzarella, and noodles and mix it all up in a big bowl (which I enjoyed for some reason…). When it’s all mixed up, I put it in a lasagna dish and covered with the remaining mozzarella and panko and cooked in the oven until the cheese was browned and bubbling. It took about 40 minutes because the noodles boiled for longer than expected before they were tender. This meal was really delicious and had so much flavor in every bite, my boyfriend was impressed! He thought it looked gross but once he tried it he was like , “Wow! That’s actually really good!” He had 2 helpings so, mission accomplished!

Value

A HelloFresh subscription is $69/week. I think 3 home cooked meals with fresh and unique ingredients would cost about the same or more if I bought everything from the grocery store, so if you grocery shop weekly as I do, the money you save on groceries is about what you’ll be paying for the subscription. For me it’s more about the variety of ingredients and getting to try lots of new things that makes this preferable to cooking all my own meals. I always feel good about myself after making a fancy meal and also enjoy impressing my boyfriend! If you like to cook and try new things, you should give this a try. I used a Groupon for 2 weeks the price of one ($69 for 2 weeks of meals). This is the link. You’d defiantly spend more than that for 2 weeks of meals for you and your significant other and the Groupon also has family discount too… there is nothing to lose, Give it a try!
